When Manmeet moved back to New Delhi, after working and studying in the US for 12 years, he was delighted to try all the delicious food he missed in the US. However, there was one big problem- hygiene! Hygiene practices vary widely in small/medium restaurants in India with many restaurants not even following the basics such as wearing gloves. While seeking a solution he met Vikram, a seasoned professional in the hospitality industry, who resonated with the problem and offered to help.
Hygiene guidelines provided by FSSAI(Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), unlike those in many western countries, are merely recommendations and not enforceable legally. There is clearly no widespread metric/authority a consumer can trust. Additionally, a single audit by an independent agency can cost tens of thousands of rupees.
To solve these problems, we founded trufl. trufl solves two fundamental problems – it brings down the cost of audits/inspections and it provides restaurant a brand that consumers will recognize and trust.
